Dowis Wayne "Buck" Buchanan Obituary (1947 - 2017)

Dowis Wayne 'Buck' Buchanan, 70, of Madisonville, KY began his heavenly journey with the Lord, surrounded by his family and friends on December 9, 2017. Dowis began his life on April 8, 1947, born to the late James Davies (J.D.) and Sadie Ruth Buchanan in Madisonville. Dowis graduated from Madisonville High School in the class of 1965 as a member of the NJROTC, FFA, and 4-H club. He also attended college at Murray State University. He married the love of his life, Linda (Vincent) Buchanan in 1982. He worked as a foreman coal miner for over thirty-five years, beginning his career at Andalex Resources - Cimarron Division, Alliance Rescoures - Hopkins County Coal, and retired from Alliance Resources, Warrior coal. He was a member of the Elks BPOE Lodge #738, a deacon at Pritchett's Chapel, and Head of the Building Committee Nottingham Estates. Dowis loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, fishing, boating, riding his golf cart with Bud and Sissy by his side, and sharing a life full of adventures with his family and friends. He was a very generous man who never met a stranger and loved everybody. For those who knew him, they loved him dearly; and those who didn't missed out on a friendship full of love, laughter, fun, great stories, exciting adventures and a forever loyal friendship. Dowis dedicated his life to creating memories with his closest family and friends that shared his life for the past 70 years. And now that he began his journey, he leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Buchanan of 35 years, in Madisonville; his three children, Stacy (Benton) Brown of Madisonville, Wendy (Brian) Blaine of Fort Worth, TX, and Chad (Felicia) Greer of Hanson, KY; three grandchildren, Macy and Ashlyn Blaine of Fort Worth and James Damien 'J.D' Brown of Madisonville; and his beloved companions, Bud and Sissy Buchanan. A Celebration of Life service will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Terry and Bro. Dave Eddmenson. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Hopkins County Humane Society or Pritchett's Chapel Building fund; two things very close to his heart. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
