Irvin Thomas Cates Obituary (1934 - 2006)

Mr. Irvin Thomas Cates, 72, of Madisonville, KY died at 6:39 P.M. Wednesday June 28, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center. \ Born February 14, 1934 in Hopkins County, KY he was the son of the late Lennie Cates and Jeanetta Mae Cunningham Cates. He was also preceded in death by one son, Eugene Thomas Cates, 9-28-1956, two brothers and two sisters. \ He was a member of Hopewell General Baptist Church, a US Army Veteran, a retired Island Creek Coal Miner, and a Kentucky Colonel. He was also an avid UK Wildcat and St. Louis Cardinal fan. \ He is survived by his wife, Anna Belle Galloway Cates of Madisonville; four daughters; Sharon Oliver of Overbrook, KS, Sandra Cunningham of Madisonville, Shelia Blanchard of Manitou, KY and SeLena Lloyd of Madisonville; three sisters, Pauline Cunningham of Madisonville, Emma Hickey of Marion, KY and Jo Evelyn Majors of Nebo, KY; one brother, L.J. Cates of Owensboro; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. \ Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 2, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Chaplain Sam Beeny, Bro. James Parish and Bro. Kellan Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 6. \ Pallbearers will be Barron Lloyd, John Oliver, Jimmy Cunningham, Jason Daugherty, Danny France and Darren France. \ Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday and on Sunday from 11:00 A.M. until the services. \ Memorial donations may be made to the West Kentucky Veterans Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
