James C. \Jay\"" Allen Obituary (1918 - 2003)

Mr. James C. Jay Allen, 85, of Lebanon, MO formerly of Madisonville, KY, died Sunday, December 7, 2003, at the North Ridge Assisted Care in Lebanon. \ Born August 2, 1918, near Hartford, in Ohio County, KY, he was the son of the late James Estill and Anna Davenport Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille H. Hamby in 2002; an infant great-granddaughter, Nicole Leigh Simoens; an infant brother, Douglas Wayne Allen and an infant sister, Lula A. Allen. \ Mr. Allen and his partner, were self-employed in their auto mechanics garage for many years in Madisonville, and he and Lucille also were managers of the Econo Lodge. Jay had also worked at his trade in Evansville, IN, Chandler, OK, Xenia, OH, Liberia, West Africa, where he worked for Liberia Mining Company at the Bomi Hills Compound. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Evansville and attended Christian Fellowship church in Evansville. Since moving to Lebanon, he attended White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Xenia, and was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Madisonville. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946, during World War II, and was part of the European Theater. He was raised in the Madisonville area and graduated from Madisonville High School. \ He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Mrs. Samuel (Carolyn S.) Clark Jr. of Lebanon and Ms. Judith Allen of Xenia: one son and a daughter-in-law, George Skip and Patricia Allen of Evansville: six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. \ Funeral services will be Thursday, December 11, 2003, at 11:00 A.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with the Rev. David Neidnagel officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. \ Visitation will be Wednesday, December 10, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and after 8:00 A.M. Thursday until the service time at the funeral home. \ There will be a Masonic service held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. \ Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \ \
