James H. Chappell Obituary (1921 - 2006)

Mr. James H. Chappell, 84, of Dawson Springs, KY died at 9:00 A.M. Sunday, October 22, 2006 at his residence. \ He was born in Richland, KY on November 21, 1921 to the late James Norman and Bessie Kembel Chappell Lee. He was also preceded in death by two infant sisters, a sister, Marie McClaren and one grandson, Christopher Michael Chappell. \ Mr. Chappell was a United States Army Veteran of W.W.II serving from 1940-1945 in the 17th Field Artillery. He retired from Peabody Coal Company, was a member of Dawson Springs First Baptist Church, a Executive Board member of the Little Bethel Association, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Dawson Springs VFW Post#310 and American Legion Post #6. \ He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margie Dean Foreman Chappell of Dawson Springs; one daughter, Katy Jane Chappell Honour of Louisville, KY; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Norman and Marsha Chappell of Louisville; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Lee Brown of Lexington, KY five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. \ Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October, 25, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. \ Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and on Wednesday after 9:00 A.M. until the service. \ Pallbearers will be the members of the Mens Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Dawson Springs, Louis Franklin, Steve Smiley, Bill Prow, R.G. Johnson, Wayne Lisanby and Sam Haulk. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Hensley, Kenneth Lynn, Dudley Riley, Richard Hatley, Kenneth Menser, Carl Buzzard, James R. Chappell, Larry Cunningham, Donnie Goodwin, Buddy Castle, Donnie Ford, James Gordon, Jerry Hart and Kenneth Purdy. \ Memorial donation may be made to the Dawson Springs First Baptist Church Bus Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
