Lewis C. Vandiver Sr. Obituary (1935 - 2008)

Mr. Lewis C. Vandiver Sr., 72, of Madisonville, KY died at 11:55 A.M. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at his home. \ Born April 22, 1935 in Hopkins County, KY he was the son of the late Jessie Robert Vandiver and Artie Justine Smith Vandiver. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Houston Vandiver and Gerald Vandiver. \ He was a coal miner and operator of Deer Creek Mining; retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Dawson Springs General Baptist Church and an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. \ He is survived by his wife, Norma Holmes Vandiver of Madisonville; one daughter, Debra Vandiver of Nebo, KY; four sons, Lewis Vandiver Jr., Victor Vandiver and Murray Vandiver, all of Madisonville and Rev. Daniel Vandiver of Dawson Springs, KY; five sister, Carmon Franklin of Nortonville, Hilda Camplin of St. Charles, KY, Janice Love of Jacksonville, FL , Sharon Hugo of South Carolina and Shelia Burns of Jacksonville, FL; four brothers, Rev. Clifton Vandiver of Sturgis, KY, Ralph Vandiver of Charleston, KY, Steve Vandiver of Jacksonville, KY and Jack Vandiver of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. \ Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. John Culbertson and Rev. Daniel Vandiver officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. \ Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday and on Monday from 8:00 A.M. until the service. \ Memorials may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
