Lois Euvena Stanford

\ After a long, healthy, and happy life of 99 years, Lois Euvena Stanford died peacefully at National Health Care in Madisonville, on February 27, 2015. She was born on April 29, 1915 in Hopkins County, where she lived for most of her and is the daughter of the late James Porter Hudson and Elma Josephine Alexander Hudson. \ \ Generally known as Euvena, she lived in the St. Charles community for most of her life until she moved to Madisonville in 1991. She was employed by the United States Postal Service for 12 years and was acting Postmaster at the St. Charles Post Office for several years. She later worked part-time at Christopher's Grocery in St. Charles. \ \ Euvena was a kind and caring person, looking out for her elderly and shut-in neighbors, often taking them some of her home-cooked meals. Euvena enjoyed having a flower garden in the summer, and she religiously fed the birds. \ \ She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Stanford, infant son William, sisters Irene Davis and Retta Mae Smith, and a brother Victor Hudson. She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her other two children, daughter Charlotte Wyatt, Madisonville, and son Donald Stanford and loving daughter-in-law, Norma, Lexington, Ky. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Allyson (Mike) Bryant, Madisonville, and Amy Sullivan, Chattanooga, Tenn., and four great grandchildren Kendall Bryant, Madisonville, Zan Wright, John Wright, and Zoe Sullivan, Chattanooga, Tenn, and several nieces and nephews. \ \ She was a member of the Christian Privilege Church in St. Charles, Ky., that was destroyed by fire several years ago, and served as its treasurer for a number of years. \ \ Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 2, 2015 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Bean officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellow Cemetery in Madisonville. \ \ Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the service time on Monday at the funeral home. \ \
