Robert Young Welch Obituary (1912 - 2008)

\ Mr. Robert Y. Welch, 96, of Madisonville, KY died at 5:30 A.M. Monday, August 18, 2008 in the Brighton Cornerstone Nursing Home. \ Born May 2, 1912 in Union County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Rivers Young Welch and Francis Mann Sizemore Welch. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Boyce Laverne Lindle Welch on July 28, 1995 and one sister, Martha Werner. \ Mr. Welch was a retired plant manager for KY Birmingham Bolt Company and was a former purchasing agent for West Kentucky Coal Co. / Island Creek Coal Company. He was a member, trustee and elder of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Welch was a board member and former chairman of the Finance Committee at Regional Medical Center. He was actively involved with the Kentucky Council of Mental Retardation being a past State President. \ He is survived by three daughters, Ariadne Welch of Jeffersontown, KY, Carolyn (Dr. Randel) Gibson of Mayfield, KY, and Janis Lindle Welch of Madisonville; one sister, Ariadne S. Welch of Fort Belvoir, VA; two grandchildren, Jay Hale (Rev. Anne Elmore) of Winston-Salem, NC and Len (Graeme) Nixon of Dillsburg, PA; and five great-grandchildren, Laura E., Rachel E. and Caroline E. Hale, Piper and Alex Nixon \ Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M Friday August 22, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Madisonville with Pastors Lon Lorton and Rob Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis, KY. \ Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and after 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church. \ Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the First Presbyterian Church or the Hopkins County Special Olympics \
