Stanley Baldwin

Dr. Stanley Baldwin, 77, of Madisonville, Kentucky, died at 7:25 A.M. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky, where he had been a patient since 2006. \ He was born November 9, 1930, in Taylor County, Kentucky to the late Roland Baldwin and Stella Walker Baldwin. \ Dr. Baldwin was a dentist in Madisonville for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a 1949 graduate of Campbellsville High School, Campbellsville, Kentucky, where he played on the basketball and baseball teams. He attended Campbellsville Junior College (KY) and was a member of the basketball team. A 1957 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, he was a member of the American Dental Association, the Kentucky Dental Association and received the KDA Outstanding Alumni Award in 1984 and KDA Fellowship Award in 1992 and 1996. He served on the KDA Alumni Board of Governors and was a president of the West Central Kentucky Dental Society in 1969. \ A veteran of the Korean War, he served with the 623rd Field Artillery Battalion, Battery B. and received the Korean War Service Medal, the Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. \ He was a longtime active member of First Methodist Church where he served as a member of the Administrative Board, Lay Leader and Chairman of the Finance Committee. An avid golfer and sports fan, he also loved gardening and travel. \ Stan and his wife, Charlotte shared 57 years of marriage. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. \ He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Eads Baldwin of Madisonville; two sons, Stuart Baldwin, DMD and wife Kim and Ben Baldwin, DMD and wife Dana of Madisonville; one brother, Harold Baldwin of Campbellsville, KY and four grandchildren; Adrian Baldwin of Louisville, KY, Alex Baldwin of Franklin, TN, Ansley Baldwin of Madisonville and one step-grandson, Joshua Dugger. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bonita Baldwin Lyons in 2003 and one brother, Eugene Baldwin, DMD in 2004. \ The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville with Rev. Ralph Martinez officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville where the VFW will hold military rites. \ Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 19, 2008 and 9:00-11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. \ Pallbearers will be Paul Baber, Joseph Ballard, Glenn Hovius, Dr. Wm. Klompus, Dr. Ferris Larsen, Meredith Henninger, James Wells, DMD and Eddie Ford. Honorary Pallbearers will be Morris Coffman, Judge Thomas Spain, Terry Deese and Albert Spenard. \ Memorial contributions may take the form of donation to The Gideons International, Earlington United Methodist Church or the Western Kentucky Veterans Center Activities Committee. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
