David C. Donan, Jr. Obituary (1912 - 2008)

Mr. David C. Donan, Jr. of Madisonville, KY died at 12:43 P.M. Monday, July 14, 2008 at the West Kentucky Veterans Center, Hanson KY. \ Born August 25, 1912 in Horse Cave, KY. He was the son of the late Dr. David C Donan and Adeline Callaway Donan. He was also preceded in death by his wife Virginia Donan; two brothers, John G. Donan and William Paige Donan. \ He was a retired coal exploration engineer as well as a World War II Veteran that served with the 24th Infantry Division, Pacific theater, Battle of Pearl Harbor and Australia. While in European theater he served with the 75th Infantry Division, Battle of the Bulge, ColMar Pocket, Ryan River Crossing with Final Victory drive for Germany. He was awarded a Bronze star with 2 oak leaf clusters and a purple heart. \ He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David Michael and Donna Donan of Florida; three nephews, William Donan, John G. Donan, Jr and Tom Donan; one niece, Ann VonGonten; sister-in-law, Helen Donan; two grandchildren, Ashley Donan and Matthew Donan. \ Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Lon Lorton officiating. Graveside Service will follow at 12:30 PM at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield, KY. \ Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Saturday. \ Memorials may take the form of donations to the West Kentucky Veterans Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
