Edward Back

Edward Leroy Back, 89 years young, of Madisonville, KY passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, at his home.
He was born August 31, 1936, in Alma, IL to the late Cecil T. Back and Dollie Mitchell Back. He is preceded in death by his wife, Connie Back; his sisters, Josephine Hanks and Margaret June Back; and his brothers, Thomas Back, Billy Back, and Doug Back.
Edward was a retired coal miner from Colonial Coal. He was a veteran of the Army, proud of his time serving for the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and a devoted woodworker. He helped to build the YAA in 1972. Edward also was an avid fly fisherman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Back; his sons, Michael (Candee) Back of Madisonville, and Larry (Tonya) Back of Madisonville; his sister, Patricia Veal, of Vernon, IL.; his brother, Charles (Patricia) Back of Nebo, KY; and two grandchildren, Dustin Back of Madisonville and Taylor Back, of Bowling Green, KY.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Russell Kline officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Duane Oldham, Brad Oldham, Walter Cummings, Jr., Dustin Back, Randy Back, Will West and Wayne Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill West and Bob McElvain.
