Ernest \Big Ern\"" Canler Obituary (1944 - 2011)

Mr. Ernie Big Ern Canler, 66, of Mortons Gap, formerly of Natchitoches, LA, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. \ He was born June 12, 1944, in Hopkins Co., KY to the late Ernest Neal Canler and Dorothy Allen Asherbraner. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Tyrone Allen. \ Mr. Canler was a member of the Mortons Gap Christian Church. He was an agent for Landstar Ligon for 30 years and he was also an artist. He enjoyed painting and creating stained glass and gave his work freely to many friends and family members. \ He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheila Valentine Canler of Mortons Gap; one daughter, Shelley (Kevin) Pennington of Madisonville; one son, Eric (Missy) Canler of Madisonville; two brothers, Rick Allen of Madisonville and Jim Allen of Hanson; five grandchildren, Kole Pennington, Allie Pennington and Savannah Pennington all of Madisonville, Brett Canler and Cami Woodall, all of Madisonville; mother-in-law, Marlene Taliaferro of Mortons Gap. \ Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Jett officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap. \ Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday and Noon until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. \ Pallbearers will be Greg Taliaferro, Brian Taliaferro, Bart Allen, Jason Knight, Jeff Starks and Dustin Knight. \
