James Herchel Simmons Sr. Obituary (1934 - 2012)

\ James Jim Herchel Simmons Sr., 77, of Manitou, KY, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at his residence. \ \ He was born September 23, 1934 to the late James Perry and Rachel B. Simmons. He was also preceded by one brother, Jack Simmons. \ \ Jim was a member of Oakley Home General Baptist Church for 45 years, where he served as Deacon for 38 years and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of Masonic Lodge #347. \ \ He was survived by his wife of 52 years, Bobbie Simmons of Manitou; two sons, James Simmons Jr. and Douglas Simmons both of Manitou; one daughter, Lynda (Steve) Oakley of Madisonville, KY; one sister, Barbara Howton of Madisonville; one brother, Bill Simmons of Evansville, IN; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. \ \ Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Don Duncan and Bro. Darrell Menser officiating. Burial will follow in Oakley Home Cemetery in Manitou. \ \ Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. to 1:45 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held at 1:45 P.M. \ \ Pallbearers will be Chad Tucker, Jesse Brandt, Shane Rigney, Mike Rigney, Billy Thomas, and Gary Oakley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brian Hornback and Kenneth Kellam. \ \
