Jane Rice Johnson Obituary (1919 - 2005)

Mrs. Jane Rice Johnson, 86, of Madisonville, KY died at 8:30 P.M., Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Regional Medical Center. \ Born October 11, 1919 in Greenville, KY she was the daughter of the late Bishop Grigsby Rice and Kate Pannell Rice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, C.P. Johnson on December 8, 2005 and two sisters, Mary Kathryn Wallace and Nancy Lee Ellis. \ She was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday School class for twenty years. She established the church library in 1955 and was the first librarian from 1955 until 1963. She was a graduate of Gulfpark College in Gulfport, MS before transferring to the University of Kentucky. \ She is survived by two daughters, Lynne J. Durham of Madisonville and Kay de Mesquita of Kingston, RI; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. \ Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard and Rev. Jim McMurtrie officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. \ Pallbearers will be Cliff de Mesquita, Jacob de Mesquita, D. W. Dockrey, Bob Florida, Larry Wilson and Brent Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be George Adcock, Paul Baber, Bill Metcalfe, F. L. Roy, Bill Vaughn and Carl Vannoy. \ Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday and after 1:00 P.M. Monday until the service at the funeral home. \ Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
