Gordon Nesmith Obituary (1919 - 2011)

Gordon Nesmith, 91, of Madisonville, KY, passed away at 8:20 A.M., Friday, March 25, 2011, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville. \ He was born in McLean Co., KY to the late Vernon and Alta Guy Nesmith. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lillie Mae Nesmith in 2006; one son, Gordon Ray Nesmith; four brothers, Leonard Nesmith, Herbert Nesmith, Morton Nesmith and Clyde Nesmith. \ Mr. Nesmith was a lifelong member, deacon and past choir director at Grapevine Baptist Church in Madisonville. He was a bookkeeper for many years as well as a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Nesmith was an avid country and gospel singer and musician. \ He is survived by one daughter, Doris D.J. (Wayne) Coy of Madisonville; one son, Monte (Weera) Nesmith of Princeton, KY; one brother, Shirley (Sue) Nesmith of Manitou, KY; four grandchildren, Matthew Long, Philip Nesmith, April Burch and Peter Nesmith and thirteen great-grandchildren. \ Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Grapevine Baptist Church in Madisonville with Rev. Greg Gaddis and Rev. Jeff Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Oakley Home Cemetery in Manitou. \ Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church. \ Pallbearers will be Monte Nesmith, Jack Branson, Matthew Long, Philip Nesmith, Peter Nesmith and Shannon Burch. \ Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Grapevine Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
