Nell Campbell Grubbs Obituary (1926 - 2015)

\ Nell Campbell Grubbs, 89, of Madisonville, KY passed away, March 2, 2015 at Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville with her children at her side. \ \ Nell was born February 26, 1926 to the late Guy and Loraine Lovan Wilkerson of Hopkins County. She grew up in the White City and Mortons Gap area. She graduated from Mortons Gap High School. \ \ In 1967, she went back to school and earned a nursing certificate, then began working for the state in the Department of Health Services. She worked at Outwood in Dawson Springs, Hazelwood Hospital in Louisville, and the Tuberculosis Hospital in Madisonville. She retired from Hopkins County Health Department in 1988 after 23 years of service. \ \ She was a member of Grapevine Baptist church, a former member of First Baptist Church in Eddyville, KY along with Second Baptist Church of Mortons Gap. She enjoyed spending time with her children, family, and friends, traveling singing, gardening, and special hobby hand quilting. She was a member of several quilting clubs and a member of Eastern Star Chapter 315 of Princeton, KY. \ \ She is survived by three sons, Robert 'Bob' (Vicki) Campbell of Marion, KY, Thomas 'TC' Campbell of Madisonville, and Jim (Sue) Campbell of Louisville; one daughter, Shelli Smith of Hanson, KY; former daughter-in-law, Karen Campbell of Mortons Gap; one brother, Odie L. Wilkerson of Akron, OH; two sisters, Helen Vickery of Hendersonville, TN, and Sue Moore of Mortons Gap; a sister-in-law, Pauline Wilkerson of Akron, OH; grandchildren: Alicia Campbell, Robbie Campbell, Amy Berry, Beckie Campbell, Jacob Smith; great-grandchildren: Ashton Campbell, Rylen Campbell, Memphis Campbell, Alex Campbell, Shelby Campbell, Ryker Berry; and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins. \ \ She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Grubbs of Eddyville, KY; her parents; and brothers; Thomas A. Wilkerson and Charles W. Wilkerson; and sisters, Wilma J. Boyle, Minnie Adams, and Sarah Walker. \ \ Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Len Young officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap. \ \ Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday and from 9:00 AM until the service time on Saturday. \ \ Memorial donations may be made to the Salem Cemetery Care Fund or Second Baptist Church of Mortons Gap. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home. \ \
