Otis E. Melton Obituary (1925 - 2006)

Mr. Otis E. Melton, 81, of Madisonville, KY died at 7:15 A.M. Sunday, September 3, 2006 at his residence. \ Born June 17, 1925 in Manitou, KY he was the son of the late Charles Essel Melton and Pearl Melinda Cox Melton. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Darlene Melton on January 30, 2000 and one brother, Obert Melton. \ He was one of the original drivers for Arnold Ligon Trucking that later became Landstar Ligon; a driving career spanning 60 years. During this time he received numerous award including the 3 Million Mile Roadstar Driving Award and the 29 year Safety Award Accident Free. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. \ He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Stella Mae Adcock Melton of Madisonville; one daughter, Melinda Massey of Madisonville; three sons and daughters-in-law; Elgie Lee and Theresa Melton of Madisonville, Ronald Wayne and Brenda Melton of Slaughters, KY and Otis Gordon and Kathy Melton of Madisonville; one sister, Ona Wilson of Madisonville; fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. \ Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Manning officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronald Melton, Elgie Melton, Otis G. Melton, Shawn Melton, Chris Melton and Joseph Massey. \ Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the service at the funeral home. \
