Robert J. Qualls Obituary (1921 - 2010)

Mr. Robert J. Qualls, 88, of Madisonville, KY, passed away at 7:10 A.M., Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. \ He was born October 18, 1921 in Hopkins County, KY to the late William Edward and Lizzie V. Crowley Qualls. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marcella Moore Qualls in 2008; one brother, Jasper Qualls and two sisters, Delia Brooks and Audrey Ashby. \ Mr. Qualls was an Army Veteran that served in World War II. He served from 1942-1946 with most of his service time being spent in the Pacific Theatre. He was a 60 year member of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville and Master Mason with the Madisonville Lodge #143. He was a surface coal miner with Pittsburgh and Midway Colonial Mines and retired in 1985 with 35 years of service. \ He is survived by one daughter, Linda (Ken) Zellich of Madisonville; two sons, Robert A. (Debby) Qualls of Brandenburg, KY and Tommie J. (Kim) Qualls of Nebo; six grandsons who will also serve as pallbearers, Alan (Ellen) Qualls, Brad (Rachel) Qualls, Clay (Sue Ellen) Zellich, Nicholas Zellich, John Qualls and Scott Qualls; two great grandsons, Adam and Nathan Qualls; two step great grandsons, Everett and Arley Bryson and three nephews, Raymond and Bobby Ashby and A.G. Qualls. \ Funeral services will be Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11:00 A.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard and Ingy Winders officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Hanson. Graveside military rites to be performed by Ft. Campbell honor guard. \ Visitation will be Friday, June 4, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., and from 9:30 A.M. until the service time on Saturday at the funeral home. \ In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Church in Madisonville. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
