Ruby Earl \Slim\"" Kirkwood Obituary (1916 - 2014)

\ Ruby Earl 'Slim' Kirkwood, 97, of Madisonville passed away at 8:34 P.M. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home. \ \ He was born July 29, 1916 in Dalton, KY to the late William Hardy Kirkwood and Elizabeth Rebecca Perkins Kirkwood. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. \ \ Mr. Kirkwood was a truck driver and mechanic for Ligon Trucking. He was also a former coal miner. \ \ He is survived by his wife, Lona Frances Kirkwood of Madisonville; one daughter, Melissa Kirkwood Gentry of Madisonville; one step-son, Herbert J. (Betty Louise) Cox of Hanson, KY; seven grandchildren, April Cox, Luana (Bill) Moulton, Sarah (Jason) Miller, Eve (Dwayne) Cardiff, John (Christy) Cox, Darin Gentry and Jessica (Bobby) Lopez; 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; an aunt, Vera Gold of Florida; one niece, Dee (Robert) Kirkwood of Glasgow, KY; three nephews, Harold Harkins of Evansville, IN, Wendell Harkins of Bowling Green, KY and Steve Gold of Detroit, MI. \ \ Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Herbert J. Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. \ \ Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. \ \
