Sory Stinnett Whitfield Obituary (1907 - 2005)

Mrs. Sory Stinnett Whitfield, 98, of Hanson, KY, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at 11:00 A.M., at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville. \ Born January 16, 1907, in Hopkins County, KY, she was the daughter of the late W. T. Stinnett and Julia Offutt Stinnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marvin Whitfield in 1983, and by two brothers, William Owen Stinnett and James Houston Stinnett. \ She taught school in Hopkins County for four years and worked as a book keeper for Trade Water Wholesale Warehouse, Lonnie Bailey Insurance Co.and Kentucky Bank & Trust Company. She was a member of the Grapevine Christian Church for 88 years where she served as church pianist and Sunday School teacher for 50 years. \ Mrs. Whitfield is survived by two nephews, Lee Stinnett of Charlotte, NC, and Mike Stinnett of Murray, KY; five nieces, Marjorie Fritz and Helen McReynolds, both of Alta Monte, FL, Judy Holt of Madisonville, Joy Waldrop of Murray, and Ann Cook of Alabama. \ Funeral services will be Friday, December 2, 2005, at 2:00 P.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Revs. Kirk Dice and Lindy Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Grapevine Cemetery. \ Visitation will be Friday, December 2, 2005, from 12:00 noon until the service time at the funeral home. \ Pallbearers will be Scott Laskowski, Chad Fisher, Mike Stinnett, Pete Waldrop, Moses Knight, Ben Laskowski, Sam Laskowski, and Bill Fritz. \ Memorials may take the form of donations to the Grapevine Christian Church or the Alzheimers Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
