Steven Mathias

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Merle Mathias, 72, of Providence, KY, who passed on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN.
He was born on June 1, 1953, in Decatur, IL, to the late Merle Howard Mathias and Marabelle Ruth Randall Mathias. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elmer W. Mathias and Essie Manly Mathias; his maternal grandparents, William Graham Randall and Ruth Ann Elliott Randall; his sister, Mary Sue Logan; and his brothers, James Harold Mathias and William Howard Mathias.
Steven worked as a tool maker at GE in Madisonville. He was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Providence, KY. During his free time, he was a member of The Gold Panning Association and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was known to be an avid outdoors man, professional accumulator, gun smith, and muzzle loader & Civil War enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon Bryson Mathias; his sons, Ricky G. Mathias of Greenville, KY, Jason W. Lovejoy of Providence, and Jacob M. Mathias of Slaughters, KY; his daughters, Jaymi (Lonnie) Choate of Safety Harbor, FL, Lisa N. (Admir) Celik of Hanson, KY, and Amanda M. (Jackie) Mathias of Lexington, KY, his two children, my two children, and our two children; one brother, David Charles Mathias; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Rikki, Zackary, Easton, Cheyenne, Luka, Adriana, Abbigail; and several great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday April 30, 2026, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Providence, KY with Father David Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Dalton Cemetery in Dalton, KY.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home – Providence Chapel, 301 North Broadway St., Providence KY 42450 before the funeral mass on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Mathias, Jason Lovejoy, Ricky Mathias, Admir Celik, Robert Averly, and Luka Celik. Honorary pallbearer will be Zach Neisz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dalton Cemetery.
