\ Vera Analeen Weir Cates , 98 of Mt. Juliet, TN formerly of Madisonville, passed away October 9, 2014 peacefully at her assisted living apartment in Mt. Juliet, Tn. \ \ She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Horace E. Cates. \ \
She was also preceded by her parents William D. Weir and Annie Elsie Taylor Weir, Sisters , Clara Parrish, Willie Lock, brothers Chester Weir, and Ancle Weir, and grandson Michael R. Cates. \ \ Survived by sons, Kenneth (Barbara) Cates of Mt. Juliet, Tn. and J. Melvin (Sherry) Cates of Murfreesboro TN, Granddaughters' Teresa (Ron) Stocker and Deborah Crabtree, three great grandsons, one great great grandson and one sister in law Elnora Overton of Mooresville, IN., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. \ \ Mrs. Cates was secretary & bookkeeper for her husband's construction company for some 50 years in the Madisonville KY and surrounding areas. Both she and Mr. Cates were members of the First General Baptist church in Madisonville for some 40 years (Mr. Cates was a trustee for 35 years) \ \ Pall bearers will be nephews. \ \ Visitation will be Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. \ \ Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Menser officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. \ \
