West B. Whitfield Obituary (1917 - 2004)

Mr. West B. Whitfield, 86, of Madisonville, KY died at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Regional Medical Center. \ He was born June 30, 1917 in Christian County, KY the son of the late Frank B. Whitfield and Iva Oglesby Whitfield. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. \ Mr. Whitfield formerly worked at the Williams Coal Co; West Kentucky Coal Co; Island Creek Coal Co. and P&M Coal Co. and Birmingham Bolt Co. He was a former president of the West Kentucky Mining Institute. He was a director for the Nortonville Bank and on the board of the Peoples Bank & Trust which was later the Citizens Bank. He was a member and former elder and deacon of the First Christian Church, where he was presently a Deacon Emeritus. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He was a sixty year member of the Nortonville Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Morning Kiwanis Club. He was past president of the Nortonville Lions Club. \ He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Clark Whitfield of Madisonville; two daughters and sons-in-law; Patricia Patty and Pryce Littlepage of Madisonville and Sheila and Gary Davis of Madisonville; one sister, Marie Walters of Owensboro, KY ; four grandchildren, Greg Littlepage, Lori Eans, Jason Davis and Jennifer Clark and four great-grandchildren. \ Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Roelan Ledbetter and Rev. Jason Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in the New Salem Cemetery in Nortonville, KY. Pallbearers will be William Bill Harris, Dudley Gill, Richard Clark, Jim Walker, Don Hancock and Roy Schmetzer. \ Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday and on Saturday after 9:00 A.M. until the services at the funeral home. \ Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the First Christian Church Building Fund.
